Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, also known as MGM Medical College, is an Indian medical college established at Jamshedpur in 1961. It is one of the three medical colleges in Jharkhand which are completely government run.[2]

Contents

History

During its inception it was a private medical college in un-carved Bihar state. In 1977 this college was taken over by the Bihar government. Now it falls under the newly separated Jharkhand state since 15 November 2000.[3]

Previously the college was affiliated to Ranchi University, Ranchi.[4] Since the inception of regional Kolhan University, Chaibasa on 12 August 2009, the college has been under its affiliation.[5]

Location

MGM Medical College is in India's steel city, Jamshedpur. It is situated on the outskirts of Jamshedpur near Dimna. The college's hospital is in Sakchi. The college is on the foot of Dimna Hills, nearly 6 kilometres from the town of Jamshedpur, in a locality named Dimna. The NH-33 separates the town from the college. Nearly 2 kilometres away is the breathtaking Dimna Lake.[6]

Admissions

The students are admitted through an All India Pre Medical Test CBSE PMT held by CBSE and Jharkhand states' combined entrance test (JCECE).[7]
